NYSC Corps member awards educational grants to 50 pupils in Edo State

In a notable gesture aimed at promoting education and supporting vulnerable families, a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member Idowu Oluwatosin Timothy (State Code ED/24C/1654) in Edo State has awarded ₦1 million in educational grants to 50 public‑school pupils under his “Education for All” initiative. The programme, executed in Ovia North East Local Government Area, is part of ongoing efforts to nurture academic talent and enhance school participation among children from disadvantaged backgrounds.

The grant award ceremony, which drew community members and education stakeholders, saw pupils selected based on academic promise and financial need. Each beneficiary received grant funding designed to assist with school fees, educational materials and other associated costs to reduce barriers to learning and promote sustained attendance and performance. Speaking at the event, the Edo NYSC Coordinator, Dr. Ben‑Ushie Frances Ifeoma, commended the corps member for his impactful community service and urged other NYSC members to pursue legacy‑building projects that have tangible benefits for host communities. Representatives from the Edo State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) also praised the initiative as a model for youth‑led philanthropy in education.

Observers said the project aligns with national goals to improve basic education outcomes and underscores the role of the NYSC programme in fostering community development beyond the service year. Beneficiaries described the grants as life‑changing, offering renewed hope amid economic challenges that often constrain educational attainment for children in underserved areas.
