OBOREVWORI, OKOWA EXPLAIN MASSIVE SHIFT TO APC
In a dramatic political realignment that stunned observers, Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and his predecessor, Ifeanyi Okowa, officially led a mass defection from the PDP to the APC, calling the move a “movement” for the state’s future rather than a simple party switch.
Addressing thousands at a rally graced by APC national leaders, Oborevwori declared that the defection was driven by a desire to anchor Delta’s development within the federal mainstream. “Mr. President has shown us love,” he said, explaining that it would be politically unwise to remain isolated from the center of power.
Okowa, speaking at the same event, defended the controversial decision, citing Delta’s historical losses due to strained relations with the federal government during his tenure. “We lost a lot,” he admitted, arguing that connecting to federal power would unlock resources critical for the state’s prosperity.
Both leaders framed the move as a patriotic act undertaken after broad consultation with stakeholders. However, critics have described it as opportunistic, warning that it may deepen political cynicism among a weary electorate already skeptical of the ruling class.
