Abuja — Senator John Azuta Mbata, President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, has called on the Federal Government to swiftly release Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), insisting his continued detention serves no meaningful purpose.
In a video message, Mbata highlighted reports of Kanu’s health challenges, including hypertension, and urged that he be permitted access to necessary medical treatment without further delay. He argued that holding Kanu any longer yields no political advantage to the government, but continues to fuel tensions and discontent.
Ohanaeze also called for a broader political approach to resolving the issue, suggesting that legal proceedings alone may not address the sensitive nature of Kanu’s case. Mbata used the opportunity to encourage Igbo citizens to participate fully in the ongoing voter registration exercise, stressing civic duty and inclusion.
