OKPEBHOLO CLEARS SALARY BACKLOG AT EDO POLYTECHNIC
Governor Monday Okpebholo has approved the disbursement of five months’ outstanding salaries in addition to the April 2025 salary to staff of Edo State Polytechnic, Usen, following months of unrest over delayed payments. The decision comes amid concerns raised in October 2024 when staff complained that their May salary was paid only in September.
According to a statement released by Fred Itua, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, the administration has moved to centralize the polytechnic’s salary payment system under the state’s direct payroll structure.
“The decision to centralise the salary structure under the state’s direct payroll is part of Governor Okpebholo’s commitment to reposition Edo State’s tertiary education sector for greater efficiency and stability,” the statement read.
The move is seen as a strategic intervention to restore order and confidence in the management of state-owned institutions, especially after repeated complaints by lecturers and non-academic staff about erratic payments under previous systems.
