The national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has strongly condemned Governor Fubara’s decision to leave the party and join APC.
In a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, the PDP said the governor “capitulated” despite having enjoyed broad support arguing that his departure is not just a personal decision, but a betrayal of the many Nigerians who stood with him during the state’s prolonged political crisis.
The party accused Fubara of willingly abandoning the party and undermining its institutional integrity. It warned that such defections especially by high-profile figures like Fubara signal a dangerous trend where individuals, not institutions, dictate political loyalty.
PDP also cautioned that Fubara’s defection deepens concerns over growing erosion of democratic norms suggesting that repeated party-switching by senior officials may weaken party structures nationwide and narrow political space ahead of future elections.
