PDP state chairmen back Turaki-led national working committee

State chairmen of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from across Nigeria have declared their support for the Tanimu Turaki-led National Working Committee (NWC), signalling unity within the party’s leadership structure ahead of national elections. The endorsement reflects consolidation after a controversial convention that saw Turaki elected as party chairman amidst internal disputes.

At a gathering in Abuja, chairmen representing most of the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory affirmed the legitimacy and authority of the Turaki-led NWC. Party officials described the move as a demonstration of cohesion and readiness to pursue strategic goals, including rebuilding and repositioning the PDP as a credible political force ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The meeting also aimed to address ongoing internal tensions and reassure members that the party is prepared to confront political challenges. Turaki used the session to emphasise a shared commitment to party ideals and to highlight the necessity of a united front in the face of opposition from rival political formations.

This development comes after a period of factional conflict within the party, during which competing leadership claims emerged. The collective endorsement by state chairmen is seen by analysts as a significant step toward stabilising the PDP’s organisational structure and strengthening its national strategy.
