REPS reverse one-week adjournment, reconvene Plenary

The House of Representatives has made a sudden U-turn on its earlier decision to adjourn plenary sessions for one week, announcing that it will reconvene on Wednesday, November 5, 2025.

The lawmakers had voted on Monday to adjourn for seven days to allow engagement with the Executive over outstanding contractor payments and budgetary issues. The motion was sponsored by Hon. Kabiru MaiPalace from Zamfara and seconded by Hon. Francis Waive from Delta.

However, in a late-night statement issued by the House Spokesman, Hon. Akin Rotimi, the lower chamber announced that plenary would resume earlier “following positive developments” from discussions with relevant government agencies.

The decision has sparked speculation among political observers, with some suggesting that mounting pressure from protesting contractors at the National Assembly and ongoing budget considerations may have prompted the reversal.

According to Rotimi, the reconvened session will focus on legislative oversight and pending national issues requiring urgent attention. He added that the House remains committed to accountability and collaboration with the Executive for the smooth implementation of the 2025 budget cycle.
