The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has been urged by the federal government to end its nationwide indefinite strike, following assurances that most of the association’s 19-point demands are either resolved or in process. Â
At a briefing in Abuja, Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr Iziak Salako said President Tinubu has directed urgent action to bring the doctors back to the wards. The government revealed it had released major funding for arrears, increased recruitment, and instituted negotiation mechanisms to address outstanding conditions. NARD, however, maintained that while some demands (like salary review) are progressing, others remain unresolved and the strike will only end when verifiable actions are completed. Hospitals across the country continue to feel the impact of the industrial action, prompting concerns about healthcare access and patient welfare.
