Popular singer Ric Hassani has added his voice to the ongoing conversation about why many artists abandon gospel music for secular genres. Speaking in an interview with Hip TV, Hassani emphasized that the transition is often spiritual rather than financial.
“Gospel music is a calling,” he said. “It’s not just about singing well—it’s about being able to minister and move people spiritually. Some people don’t have that gift.” The Thunder Fire You crooner revealed he started his music journey in the church but later realized it wasn’t his calling.
He insisted that being a devout Christian doesn’t mean one must exclusively produce gospel music. “Some of us were made for the world,” he added, noting that he always includes at least one gospel track in his albums but prefers creating music that reaches broader audiences.
Hassani dismissed claims that gospel artists switch to secular music solely for money, citing examples like Davido and Burna Boy, who continue to make music despite their wealth. “The real fulfillment is in the creation itself—turning an idea into a piece of music that moves people. That’s a joy money can’t buy,” he concluded.
