SENATE COMMITTEE ON SOUTH WEST DEVELOPMENT VOWS INFRASTRUCTURE TRANSFORMATION

The Senate Committee on the South West Development Commission (SWDC) has pledged to transform the region through a bold agenda rooted in infrastructure, economic revitalisation, and integrated development. At the inaugural meeting of the committee, Chairman Senator Yunus Akintunde (APC, Oyo Central) said the Commission would move beyond bureaucratic intentions to deliver real results.
Referencing the Development Agenda for Western Nigeria (DAWN), Akintunde described it as a strategic framework that would guide stakeholder engagements across Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Osun, Ondo, and Ekiti States. He insisted that the South West must build on its legacy as Nigeria’s commercial nerve center.
“The Commission must be a mandate for action, not a paper tiger. We need jobs, roads, innovation hubs, and opportunities,” he said, adding that transparency and accountability would be non-negotiable in every intervention.
Other Senators echoed his sentiments, citing infrastructure and human capital as foundational pillars of development.
