Senate Moves to Fast-Track Nigeria Forest Security Service Bill

The Senate has pledged to accelerate the passage of the Nigeria Forest Security Service (NFSS) Bill to strengthen efforts in combating banditry, terrorism, and kidnapping in the country’s forests.

Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin made this commitment when the NFSS Commander-General, Dr. Wole Osatimehin, led a delegation on a courtesy visit to his office in Abuja.

Jibrin praised the NFSS leadership for its efforts in tackling insecurity and emphasized the urgency of passing the bill into law. Dr. Osatimehin noted that the NFSS had already established command offices in all 36 states and the FCT, underscoring the need for legal backing to enhance its operations.

Ambassador John Metchie, NFSS Deputy Commander-General of Intelligence, also commended the National Assembly for its support, expressing confidence that the bill would soon become law.
