The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Universities (NASU) have announced plans to embark on nationwide protests on Thursday, October 9, over unresolved issues surrounding withheld salaries and poor welfare.
The two unions, operating under the Joint Action Committee (JAC), said the protest was necessitated by the Federal Government’s failure to implement agreements reached earlier this year on payment of salary arrears owed to their members.
In a statement by the JAC spokesperson, the unions accused the government of insensitivity to the plight of non-academic university workers, warning that the protest could escalate into a full-blown strike if their grievances are not urgently addressed.
The planned action is expected to affect university operations nationwide, raising concerns about disruptions in academic and administrative activities.
