Team Nigeria delivered a timely morale boost this week after securing multiple gold medals at the ongoing Islamic Solidarity Games in Riyadh.
The national contingent dominated in wrestling, where Blessing Onyebuchi powered through the women’s heavyweight category to clinch gold. Nigeria also triumphed in athletics with a commanding performance in the women’s 4×100m relay, bolstering the country’s overall medal tally.
With six gold, five silver and three bronze medals so far, Nigeria currently sits in the top bracket of competing nations. Officials say the upswing in performance underscores the country’s strength beyond football, especially in track-and-field and combat sports.
The Games continue through next week, with Nigeria expected to challenge for additional podium finishes.
