Tenant Attacks Landlord over Rent

A heated dispute over unpaid rent turned violent in the Pegicommunity of Kuje Area Council, FCT, as a tenant, Musa Alhassan, allegedly assaulted his landlord, Samson Bako, after returning home to find his room locked.

According to local sources, a commercial driver, had failed to pay rent for over a year despite multiple reminders from the landlord’s son, who is in charge of rent collection. Frustrated by the delay, Bako took action on 20th February last Thursday night around 9:33 p.m., securing the tenant’s room with a new padlock while he was away at work.

Upon his return, Alhassan learned from other tenants that Bako was responsible for locking the room. Enraged, he reportedly confronted the landlord’s son and attempted to strike him. The altercation quickly escalated, drawing in Bako, who was allegedly attacked by Alhassan.

Local vigilantes were alerted and swiftly intervened to prevent further violence. Alhassan was eventually handed over to local security personnel.

Efforts to get an official response from the FCT Police Command were unsuccessful, as spokesperson SP Josephine Adeh did not respond to calls or messages at the time of reporting.
