TINUBU APPROVES ‘NIGERIA FIRST’ POLICY, BARS MDAs FROM IMPORTING LOCALLY PRODUCIBLE GOODS
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has formally approved the implementation of the Nigeria First Policy, a landmark directive requiring all federal government agencies to prioritise locally produced goods and services in their procurement processes.
The policy, broadcast Wednesday may 14th by the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), follows a proposal by the Director-General of the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP), Dr. Adebowale Adedokun, and is part of Tinubu’s broader economic self-reliance agenda under the Renewed Hope initiative.
All Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) must now adhere to revised procurement guidelines that strictly favour Nigerian-made products over imports. The DG of BPP is expected to issue detailed implementation directives in the coming days.
Meanwhile, Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairperson of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), has urged Nigerians abroad to support the policy. “It is a game-changing initiative designed to empower local innovators, strengthen the economy, and uplift made-in-Nigeria products,” she said.
The Nigeria First Policy marks a significant departure from previous practices that often sidelined local manufacturers, and it is expected to stimulate industrial growth and reduce the country’s dependency on foreign products.
