TINUBU COMMITTED TO REWRITING HISTORY OF ROADS CONSTRUCTION — UMAHI

Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, speaking on behalf of President Bola Tinubu, has reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to transforming Nigeria’s road infrastructure, describing current efforts as “rewriting history.”

At a road project flag-off ceremony, Umahi said that recent contracts awarded across multiple states reflect a departure from past practices of road delays and abandoned projects. Under Tinubu’s leadership, according to the minister, project delivery timelines will be closely monitored, with stronger enforcement of road standards and accountability mechanisms.

Umahi emphasized that the new roads will serve not only as transportation corridors but also as catalysts for economic development. He cited the importance of linking hinterlands to markets, reducing transportation costs for farmers, and improving access to social services.

Residents from host communities expressed optimism. In states where the government has recently commissioned road segments, local leaders noted reduced travel time, improved business activity, and stronger hopes for growth. Umahi cautioned officials and contractors that substandard work will not be tolerated, and promised sanctions for failures in execution.
