President Bola Tinubu has congratulated Ekpo Mshelbilas on his election as President and Secretary-General of the Gas Exporting Countries (GEC) organisation, calling the development a “win for Nigeria’s energy diplomacy.” The President issued a commendation through the Office of the Special Adviser on Energy.
In his statement, Mr. Tinubu said Mshelbilas’ election is testimony to Nigeria’s standing in the global gas market and affirms the country’s capacity to lead multilateral energy institutions. The President pledged support for the new GEC leadership and expressed confidence that under Mshelbilas, GEC would pursue policies that balance producer interests with global energy transition imperatives.
Energy ministry insiders indicate that Mshelbilas’ leadership is expected to strengthen Nigeria’s gas monetisation agenda, deepen alliances among gas producing nations, and amplify collective negotiating power in global gas trade protocols and climate frameworks.
