TINUBU HONOURS RETIRED COLONEL ABUBAKAR DANGIWA WITH CFR AWARD

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has conferred the national honour of Commander of the Federal Republic (CFR) upon retired Colonel Abubakar Dangiwa, a former Military Governor of Kaduna State. The award was announced during Tinubu’s one‑day working visit to Kaduna, making amends for an earlier omission during the June 12 Democracy Day celebrations.
“In my Democracy Day speech, I inadvertently left out Colonel Dangiwa. Today, I am proud to honour him with the Commander of the Federal Republic title,” the President announced.
Colonel Dangiwa served as Military Governor of Kaduna State from 1985 to 1988 under General Ibrahim Babangida (retd.). Since retiring from the Nigerian Army in 1993, Dangiwa has remained an active voice in Nigeria’s public and civic space, founding the Movement for Unity and Progress, a party dedicated to democratic reforms and national development. The award acknowledges Dangiwa’s enduring contributions to the nation’s democratic and institutional heritage.
