President Bola Almed Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to using education and skills development to reduce poverty and empower Nigerian youths. He made the remarks on Monday while receiving the Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Edward, at the State House, Abuja.
Tinubu highlighted the government’s student loan initiative, digital infrastructure rollout, and multi-sector reforms as key measures to expand access to education, create opportunities, and strengthen the economy for young Nigerians. He also noted that youth issues will be central at this week’s G-20 meetings.
Minister of Finance, Wale Edun, added that Nigeria’s youthful median age of 17 drives policy decisions aimed at enhancing skills development and participation in growth opportunities.
Prince Edward praised the reforms, noting their global recognition, and announced that 320 Nigerian youths will be honoured at upcoming Duke of Edinburgh Award events in Lagos, celebrating young people developing skills and contributing to national growth.
Also present at the meeting were the British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Sir Richard Montgomery, and senior representatives of the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award Foundation. The programme aims to build skills, resilience, and civic responsibility among young people through non-formal education.
