Bola Ahmed Tinubu quietly held separate closed-door meetings with Siminalayi Fubara (Rivers State governor) and Francis Nwifuru (Ebonyi State governor) at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Monday, Dec 8th.
Governor Fubara arrived at the State House around 5:01 p.m., was received by the Presidential Protocol Liaison Officer and spent roughly 45 minutes inside before departing at about 5:45 p.m.   The session came amid growing political tension in Rivers State, following the defection of 17 lawmakers from the state assembly from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), which has raised fresh speculation about Fubara’s political standing and future.
Governor Nwifuru’s meeting preceded Fubara’s and like the first was held privately with no public disclosure of the agenda or outcome. Observers suggest the talks may have covered issues such as security coordination in the Southeast, state-federal collaboration on infrastructure, or internal party realignments.
Given the timing and the players involved, the closed-door meetings have fueled speculation that the federal government might be mediating political tensions in Rivers State — and possibly exploring realignment or reconciliation ahead of key national events.
