TINUBU REAFFIRMS COMMITMENT TO MULTI-PARTY DEMOCRACY

Addressing growing concerns of political domination by the APC, President Tinubu firmly stated that Nigeria will not devolve into a one-party state under his leadership. Speaking during his Democracy Day speech to the National Assembly, Tinubu reflected on his own experience as the last opposition governor in the Southwest in 2003 and stressed his unshakable belief in multi-party democracy.
Dismissing fears as “panic-driven,” Tinubu insisted the role of managing opposition falls to the opposition itself. “I will not advise the opposition to put its house in order, and I will not help them either,” he declared. The President praised historic democratic interventions by past National Assemblies, especially the thwarting of the third-term agenda in 2006 and the elevation of Goodluck Jonathan via the Doctrine of Necessity in 2010.
Tinubu paid homage to those who resisted military dictatorship, recounting personal risks taken by pro-democracy legislators. He commended former President Muhammadu Buhari for correcting the injustice of the annulled 1993 elections, noting that Democracy Day now stands as a national symbol of defiance against tyranny.
