TINUBU RELEASES N50 BILLION TO ASUU, VOWS TO END STRIKES PERMANENTLY

In a significant gesture aimed at improving morale and stability in Nigeria’s public universities, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration has released N50 billion for the payment of earned academic and non-academic allowances across federal universities. The disbursement was confirmed in a statement issued by the Minister of Education, Prof. Maruf Olatunji Alausa, through the Ministry’s Director of Press, Boriowo Folasade.
According to the minister, the funds represent more than just the fulfillment of a financial obligation—they reflect a broader commitment by the Tinubu government to prioritize the welfare of education workers and promote long-term stability within the nation’s higher institutions. Alausa described the move as a key part of the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which aims to reposition Nigeria’s education system to support the country’s transition from a resource-dependent to a knowledge-based economy.
“This landmark development stands as yet another testament to President Tinubu’s unwavering commitment to fundamentally transform Nigeria’s education sector,” Alausa said. “It reflects the administration’s bold resolve to invest in infrastructure, human capital, and a sustainable future for our youth.”
The minister noted that this gesture comes at a time when Nigeria is experiencing one of the longest uninterrupted academic calendars in recent history—a feat credited to improved relations between the government and university unions. “The youth are the heartbeat of our country. Their future is extremely important to me and my administration,” Tinubu was quoted as saying. “Keeping our children in school is not negotiable. It is my commitment that strikes in our institutions will soon become a thing of the past—forever.”
Alausa reaffirmed the government’s intention to maintain peace and progress in the education sector by collaborating closely with all stakeholders. He added that the ministry would ensure transparency in disbursing the earned allowances and that every federal university would be appropriately covered.
