President Bola Ahmed Tinubu convened a crucial All Progressives Congress (APC) National Caucus meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, bringing together top leaders of the ruling party as part of strategic preparations ahead of broader party deliberations and the 2027 election cycle. The gathering took place on 18 December 2025 at the State House Banquet Hall, underscoring efforts to foster unity and cohesion within the APC.
Tinubu led the high-profile meeting alongside Vice-President Kashim Shettima, and former Vice-President Professor Yemi Osinbajo, signalling inclusive engagement across party leadership and governance ranks. Also in attendance were principal legislative figures including Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas, reflecting the party’s intent to align executive and legislative priorities.
The caucus also drew a large turnout of APC governors, members of the National Working Committee (NWC), and senior party stakeholders. Notably, six governors who recently defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) — including Siminalayi Fubara (Rivers), Peter Mbah (Enugu), Sheriff Oborevwori (Delta), Douye Diri (Bayelsa), Umo Eno (Akwa Ibom) and Agbu Kefas (Taraba) — attended their first caucus session since joining the party, highlighting evolving political realignments within Nigeria.
Presided over for the first time by Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, the APC National Chairman, the caucus is expected to set the political and organisational tone for upcoming engagements, including the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting that soon follows. Party leaders are slated to discuss internal coordination, membership registration strategies, party reforms, and preparations for future elections, all aimed at consolidating APC’s national presence and readiness.
Participants also emphasised the importance of unity, transparent internal processes and a collective approach to addressing national issues, with the caucus serving as a forum to reinforce the party’s governing vision and legislative priorities across Nigeria’s political landscape.
