Tinubu Urges Unity Beyond Religion, Defends Economic Reforms

President Bola Tinubu has called on Nigerians to move beyond religious divisions and focus on national development, stressing that poverty and insecurity affect everyone, regardless of faith.

Speaking in Abuja during a meeting with the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria (CBCN), Tinubu reiterated his commitment to religious tolerance and national progress. “Poverty has no religious basis. It affects all, and we must fight it together,” he said.

Addressing concerns over economic hardship, Tinubu defended his administration’s tough policy choices, including the removal of fuel subsidies. “Yes, removing the fuel subsidy was hard, but Nigeria must not go bankrupt,” he stated.

He highlighted improvements in the economy, including increased investments, a stronger petroleum sector, and declining commodity prices, as signs of progress. “What seemed like a difficult beginning is now showing hope. Investors are coming in, and people are saying good things about Nigeria,” Tinubu said.

The president reassured religious leaders of his open-door policy and ongoing efforts to improve security, adding, “This country must develop beyond religious bigotry.”
