Former President Muhammadu Buhari is currently undergoing medical treatment in the United Kingdom, according to his spokesperson Garba Shehu. The former leader, who left office in May 2023, had travelled for his routine annual check-up but took ill shortly after arrival.
Shehu confirmed that Buhari is recovering steadily and responding to treatment but declined to disclose the nature of the illness or a timeline for his return to Nigeria.
This marks yet another episode in Buhari’s long-standing medical history abroad, which was a source of public controversy during his presidency, particularly between 2017 and 2021, when he spent prolonged periods in London for treatment.
