The University of Calabar (UNICAL) has conferred an Honorary Doctorate in Law on the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, in recognition of his contributions to governance and national development.
The prestigious award was presented by the university’s Chancellor, Emir Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, during the institution’s 37th convocation ceremony, which also marked its 50th anniversary.
Wike, a former governor of Rivers State, has been widely regarded for his infrastructural achievements and political influence. His tenure as governor saw major transformations in urban development, road construction, and education, earning him accolades beyond his home state.
A video shared by his spokesperson, Lere Olayinka, captured the moment Wike received the honorary degree, with university officials commending his leadership and dedication to public service.
Reacting to the recognition, Wike expressed gratitude to UNICAL for the honor, pledging to continue serving the country in whatever capacity he can. The minister joins a distinguished list of Nigerians who have received similar awards for their impact on governance and public administration.
