Vice President Kashim Shettima on Sunday July 26th represented Nigeria at the 2024 United Nations Food Systems Summit held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
The summit, aimed at accelerating global food systems transformation, featured heads of state, agriculture ministers, and development partners discussing strategies to combat food insecurity, improve agricultural resilience, and foster sustainable farming across Africa.
VP Shettima reiterated Nigeria’s commitment to food security under President Tinubu’s administration, highlighting recent investments in mechanized agriculture, climate-smart farming techniques, and youth empowerment in agro-entrepreneurship.
“Nigeria is determined to not only feed itself but to become a net exporter of food,” he stated. “We must act fast and collectively to strengthen Africa’s food production chains in the face of rising global shocks.”
The Nigerian delegation also engaged in bilateral discussions with UN agencies and private sector stakeholders to explore strategic partnerships in agricultural technology and food logistics.
