WIKE DEFENDS LOYALTY TO PDP, DENIES PROMISING APC FCT VICTORY IN 2027

Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike has pushed back against accusations of anti-party activities, insisting that he has remained loyal to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) even while serving under an APC-led federal government. Wike’s comments were made during a high-stakes PDP stakeholders meeting on May 11, aimed at resolving deepening internal divisions.
According to sources present, Wike denied ever promising to deliver the FCT to the APC in 2027 and challenged anyone with evidence to produce it. He explained that while he withheld support for Atiku Abubakar in the 2023 election due to unresolved grievances, he ensured PDP’s victory in Rivers State and other constituencies, claiming no other PDP governor did as much for the party.
The meeting concluded with the formation of a reconciliation committee led by former Senate President Bukola Saraki. The committee has already begun work, holding discussions with Plateau State Governor and key NWC members to resolve the issue of the National Secretary and stem further defections.
Wike’s defence highlights ongoing tensions between PDP stalwarts and the party’s decision-making body over strategy and loyalty in a post-2023 political landscape.
