NIGERIA’S MINING SECTOR DRAWS GLOBAL INTEREST

The Minister of Solid Minerals, Dele Alake, has expressed the Federal Government’s commitment to enhancing the mining sector through collaboration with state governments. During a visit to Nasarawa State, Alake highlighted the significant strides made in the last 17 months to reform the sector, which have led to increased global interest in Nigeria’s mining resources, including lithium, cobalt, and titanium.

Governor Abdullahi Sule praised the efforts in revitalizing the sector, noting that Nigeria is now positioned as an attractive investment destination. However, both officials acknowledged that security challenges persist in mining operations.

Discussions during the meeting underscored the importance of involving local communities in mining activities, with the Bola Tinubu administration pushing for a more inclusive approach. The minister emphasized that local companies and communities would be able to apply for licenses and form partnerships with global mining firms, ensuring mutual growth and avoiding the past mistakes made in the oil and gas sector.
