PRESIDENT TINUBU APPOINTS NEW RECTOR OF FEDERAL POLYTECHNIC UKANA

In a groundbreaking development, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, has appointed Mrs. Eduma Enobong Essienas the Rector of Federal Polytechnic Ukana, making her the first female to hold the position in the institution’s history.

The appointment, effective from February 4, 2025, was conveyed through a statement signed by Dr. Nasir Sani-Gwarzo, Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Education. The statement congratulated Mrs. Essien and extended best wishes for a successful tenure.

Born on January 16, 1967, Mrs. Essien is an accomplished academic with over 28 years of teaching experience at Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic. A seasoned statistician and scholar, she holds a B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Statistics from the University of Ilorin and is pursuing her Ph.D. at Akwa Ibom State University.

Her career journey includes significant roles such as Head of the Department of Statistics, Dean of the School of Applied Sciences, and Director of Academic Planning. She played a pioneering role in the establishment of Federal Polytechnic Ukana, contributing to the accreditation of its initial programs.

Mrs. Essien’s appointment follows her impressive performance during a highly competitive selection process involving 13 candidates. Her deep knowledge of the institution and strong ties with its staff and host community are expected to contribute to a successful tenure.

As the Polytechnic community, family, and well-wishers celebrate this historic appointment, Mrs. Essien is set to bring visionary leadership and academic excellence to her new role.
