The Coordinator of the Office of the First Lady, Mrs. Edesili Okpebholo Anani, has called for a comprehensive review of laws protecting women and children in Edo State. Speaking during a visit by the Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA) at the Government House in Benin City, Mrs. Anani emphasized the urgent need to strengthen legal frameworks and expedite justice delivery for victims of abuse.
Citing a December 2024 rape case involving a young girl from Okpella that remains unresolved, she stressed: “Justice delayed is justice denied. We must ensure cases like this are expedited for the sake of justice.”
Mrs. Anani assured FIDA of the government’s commitment to supporting initiatives that empower women and protect children. In response, FIDA Edo Chairperson Mrs. Francisca Elema thanked the First Lady for her dedication and highlighted challenges faced by the association, including funding and infrastructure deficits.
The visit concluded with both parties agreeing on closer collaboration to safeguard women’s rights and dignity
