Enugu Governor approves gratuity payments for Retirees

Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State has approved the payment of gratuities to retirees, with a verification exercise set to begin on Monday, February 24, 2025.

In a statement signed by Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, the Secretary to the State Government, retirees and next of kin of deceased pensioners were urged to participate in the verification process to ensure accurate records and eliminate fraud.

The exercise aims to:

• Validate records and ensure only legitimate beneficiaries receive payments.

• Address discrepancies and prevent undue delays.

• Build a reliable and transparent database for future reference.

Eligible participants include retirees who are yet to receive gratuities and next of kin entitled to payments. They are required to present key documents such as retirement notices, pension forms, BVN, NIN, and bank statements.

The verification will occur in four phases from February 24 to April 17, 2025, with specific schedules communicated via SMS, radio announcements, and posters.

The state government urged all concerned individuals to comply, assuring them that the initiative is part of its commitment to transparency and welfare enhancement for pensioners.
