BUA Chairman, Dangote, others Donate over ₦17bn at Babangida’s Book Launch

Prominent Nigerian businessmen and political leaders have donated over ₦17 billion to former Military President Ibrahim Babangida during the public presentation of his autobiography, A Journey in Service.

The high-profile event, held at the Congress Hall of Transcorp Hilton, Abuja, also served as a fundraising platform for the IBB Presidential Library Foundation.

Aliko Dangote made the highest single donation of ₦8 billion, broken down into ₦2 billion annually for four years. He was followed by BUA Group Chairman, Abdulsamad Rabiu, who contributed ₦5 billion, and General Theophilus Danjuma, who pledged ₦3 billion.

Other major donors included Arthur Eze with ₦500 million, Senate President Godswill Akpabio with ₦50 million, and Deputy Senate President Jibrin Barau, who gave ₦20 million.

The event was attended by key figures, including former Ghanaian President Nana Akufo-Addo, who delivered the keynote address, as well as former Nigerian Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo, Goodluck Jonathan, Yakubu Gowon, and Abdulsalami Abubakar. Muhammadu Buhari was represented at the occasion.

‘A Journey in Service’ explores Babangida’s time as military head of state, his personal life, and major decisions—including the controversial annulment of the June 12, 1993 election, which sparked a national crisis and prolonged military rule until 1999.
