The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 29-year-old man, Sadiq Abubakar Yusuf, over the alleged sexual assault of a 14-year-old girl in Guru Village, Bauchi State.
According to police authorities, the incident was reported on May 15, 2026, by the victim’s father at the ‘B’ Division Police Station in the Government Reserved Area of Bauchi. The complainant alleged that the suspect, who is his nephew, lured the teenage girl away from their residence on May 14 before allegedly assaulting her.
In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, Nafiu Habib, the command said officers responded swiftly to the complaint, arrested the suspect and ensured the victim received immediate medical attention at the Police Clinic.
Police said the case has now been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for detailed investigation and possible prosecution. Authorities also assured residents that the matter would be handled professionally and with sensitivity in line with legal procedures protecting minors and victims of abuse.
Commissioner of Police Sani-Omolori Aliyu reiterated the command’s zero-tolerance stance on crimes involving women and children, urging members of the public to promptly report cases of abuse, violence and other criminal acts to security agencies.
The incident has sparked concern among residents and child rights advocates, who continue to call for stronger protection measures for minors and stricter punishment for offenders involved in sexual and gender-based violence.
