Omo-Agege Dumps APC After Primary Election Defeat

Former Deputy Senate President Ovie Omo-Agege has officially resigned from the All Progressives Congress following his defeat in the party’s Delta Central senatorial primary election.

In a resignation letter addressed to the APC chairman of Orogun Ward 2 in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State, Omo-Agege said recent developments within the party in the state made it difficult for him to continue pursuing his political ambitions and the interests of his supporters under the APC platform.

The former senator stated that after consultations with political allies, supporters, and stakeholders, he concluded that his future political objectives and the aspirations of his constituents would be better achieved outside the ruling party.

Omo-Agege, who represented Delta Central Senatorial District and served as Deputy Senate President during the 9th National Assembly, said he could not remain “a sitting duck” in a political environment where he believed he could no longer effectively advance the interests of Delta Central, Delta State, and Nigeria.

Despite his resignation, he expressed gratitude to the APC for giving him the opportunity to serve in one of the country’s highest legislative offices. He also requested that his name be removed from all party records, registers, and communication platforms.

The development comes shortly after Omo-Agege lost the APC senatorial primary for Delta Central to incumbent senator Ede Dafinone. The primary contest had generated significant political attention within Delta State, with observers closely watching the growing internal divisions within the party.

Political analysts believe the resignation could reshape the political landscape in Delta State ahead of the next election cycle, especially considering Omo-Agege’s influence within the Urhobo political structure and his previous role as the APC governorship candidate in the state.

Although the former deputy senate president has not formally announced his next political platform, his statement suggests he may soon align with another party or political movement as he seeks to continue his political career and maintain relevance in Delta State politics.

The resignation is expected to trigger reactions from APC leaders and supporters across the state, particularly as parties begin strategic realignments ahead of future elections.
