LAGOS, Nigeria — Businessman and Lekki Gardens Estate CEO, Richard Nyong, has paid an emotional tribute to the late real estate entrepreneur Dr. Stephen “Misa” Alade, describing him as “a great man” whose final act of generosity reflected a lifetime dedicated to improving the lives of others.
In a heartfelt message released following the commissioning of a 36-apartment residential facility donated to the National Orthopaedic Hospital, Igbobi, Nyong said Misa’s legacy extends far beyond his achievements in business.
The housing project, built to provide accommodation for medical doctors at the hospital, was conceived after Misa reportedly learned about a young doctor who had been living in his car because he could not afford housing in Lagos.
A Final Gift to Healthcare Workers
According to Nyong, while many people would have offered temporary financial assistance, Misa chose a lasting solution by funding a residential complex that would benefit generations of healthcare professionals.
He described the project as evidence of Misa’s character, noting that the businessman continued to think about improving the lives of others even during his final days.
“Many people would have sympathised or offered financial support. Misa chose instead to build homes that would serve doctors for years to come,” Nyong wrote.
The completed facility was officially commissioned after Misa’s passing, with members of his family present at the ceremony.
A Friendship Forged in Difficult Times
Nyong also reflected on the close relationship he shared with Misa, revealing that their friendship began in 2016 during one of the most difficult periods of his life.
Despite being competitors in the real estate industry, he said Misa reached out to support him publicly and privately when many others chose to keep their distance.
According to him, that gesture laid the foundation for a brotherhood that lasted until Misa’s death.
He recalled that they affectionately called each other “Bro Bro,” a nickname he said symbolised the unique bond they shared.
Remembering a Lasting Legacy
Nyong praised Misa’s wife for speaking with strength and dignity during the commissioning ceremony, saying her remarks reflected the life of a man committed to serving others.
He added that while death had taken his friend, it could not erase the impact of his generosity.
In his tribute, Nyong argued that true greatness is measured not by wealth but by the lives touched through acts of kindness and service.
He concluded by describing Misa as someone whose legacy would continue through the doctors who now have a place to call home because of his final gift.
