Adamawa Group Urges Atiku to Reject Alleged Plan to Replace ADC Governorship Candidate

A political group in Adamawa State, the Adamawa Forward Political Organization, has called on former Vice President and African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar to publicly distance himself from allegations of a plan to replace the party’s governorship candidate, Ambassador Omar Suleiman Omarana.

The group made the appeal during a peaceful protest at the ADC State Secretariat in Yola, warning that any attempt to substitute Omarana could deepen divisions within the party and negatively affect its prospects ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The controversy follows reports of internal disagreements within the Adamawa chapter of the ADC after the party’s governorship primary, with speculation that some influential figures are pushing to replace Omarana as the party’s flag bearer.

Addressing the protesters, the group’s spokesperson and secretary, Hon. Joshua Buba, said members were concerned by reports that efforts were underway to substitute Omarana despite his emergence as the party’s candidate.

According to Buba, many party stakeholders believe any such move would undermine fairness and internal democracy. He called on the party’s leadership to intervene and ensure that the outcome of the primary election is respected.

He also accused unnamed politicians based in Abuja of fueling the crisis and attempting to impose another candidate on party members in the state.

Buba alleged that there were moves to replace Omarana with Hamman Tukur, warning that members of the organization would strongly oppose any attempt to alter the party’s decision.

He argued that forcing a different candidate on the party could have serious consequences for the ADC’s unity and electoral chances in Adamawa.

Also speaking during the protest, the organization’s Public Relations Officer, Abdulaziz Mohammed, appealed to Atiku Abubakar to publicly clarify his position and dissociate himself from the alleged plot.

Mohammed said such a statement would reassure party members and demonstrate the ADC’s commitment to democratic principles ahead of the 2027 elections.

Efforts to obtain a reaction from the Adamawa State Chairman of the ADC, Barrister Ibrahim Sadiq Dasin, were unsuccessful as he could not be reached at the time of filing the report.
