Naira Marley, Sam Larry Acquitted As DPP Clears Them

A Magistrate Court sitting in Sabo, Yaba, Lagos State, has acquitted popular musician, Abdulazeez Fashola, known as Naira Marley, and socialite Samson Balogun, popularly called Sam Larry, in connection with the death of late singer IlerioluwaAloba, a.k.a. Mohbad.

Delivering the ruling on Tuesday, February 25th, Magistrate Ejiro Kubenje implemented the legal advice issued by the Lagos State Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP), which found no case against Naira Marley, Sam Larry, Owodunni Ibrahim (Primeboy), and Mohbad’s former manager, Opere Babatunde.

However, the DPP recommended the prosecution of auxiliary nurse, Feyisayo Ogedengbe, and Mohbad’s friend, AyobamiSadiq, for reckless and negligent acts leading to the singer’s untimely death. Their actions were deemed contrary to Section 251 (e) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015, and they will now face trial at the Magistrate Court.

The verdict has sparked reactions among Nigerians, with some expressing relief at the court’s decision while others continue to demand justice for the late singer.
