RIVERS APC WELCOMES POSSIBILITY OF GOV. FUBARA’S DEFECTION

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State has publicly expressed its readiness to accept Governor Siminalayi Fubara should he choose to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), marking a potential political turning point amid the state’s ongoing governance crisis.
Speaking on Tuesday May 20th through his Chief of Staff, APC Chairman Emeka Beke said that the party sees Fubara’s defection as both likely and advantageous. Beke noted that as a sitting governor, Fubara would automatically become the APC’s state leader, significantly bolstering the party’s relevance and access to federal programs.
This development comes against the backdrop of tensions that led to Fubara’s suspension by President Tinubu. Beke suggested that Fubara’s move to the APC could be both a political safeguard and a tool for strengthening state-federal relations.
The APC also offered a shift in posture—from withholding governance advice as the opposition to providing full policy support if Fubara joins. “We will gladly open our hearts to him,” Beke said, underlining the strategic stakes of a defection in the power dynamics of Rivers politics.
