TCN ANNOUNCES FIVE-DAY BLACKOUT IN NORTH-EAST OVER GRID PROJECT

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced a planned five-day blackout affecting Bauchi, Gombe, parts of Yobe and Borno states. The outage, which began on June 10 and will end June 14, is due to grid connection works at the Bauchi 330kV transmission substation.
According to TCN’s spokesperson, Ndidi Mbah, power supply will be limited in affected areas, with some towns like Yola and Jalingo expected to face full blackouts. However, alternative sources—including the Dadin-Kowa Hydro Plant and the Maiduguri Emergency Power Plant—will help cushion the impact.
The construction includes installation of a new transmission tower and re-routing of the Jos-Bauchi-Gombe line to boost redundancy and improve power reliability. TCN urged consumers to be patient, promising full restoration once the upgrade is completed.
