KATSINA GOVERNOR SACKS PRISON STAFF OVER INMATE TORTURE

Governor Dikko Radda of Katsina State has taken decisive disciplinary action following a scandal at the Babbar Ruga Reformatory Centre, where an inmate, Usman Musa, was severely tortured, resulting in the amputation of his hand.
Following an investigative report, the principal of the facility, Abdulzahir Abubakar, the vice principal, Bala Abubakar, and porter Yunusa Yusuf were suspended. A casual worker, Murtala Suleiman, directly implicated in the abuse, has been dismissed.
In a statement by the Secretary to the State Government, Abdullahi Faskari, the governor announced ₦970,000 in immediate medical support and ₦35 million for a sensor-enabled prosthetic hand to assist the victim’s rehabilitation.
Governor Radda also approved the implementation of sweeping reforms recommended by a special committee to upgrade the center to international human rights standards. He reaffirmed his administration’s zero-tolerance policy toward abuse in state-run facilities.
