FAKE LAWYER ARRESTED FOR DEFRAUDING BUSINESSMAN OF ₦18.5 MILLION

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a man who allegedly posed as a qualified lawyer and defrauded a businessman of ₦18.5 million in bogus legal fees.

Police reports indicate that the suspect introduced himself as a barrister and convinced the unsuspecting victim that he could handle a major legal case. Trusting his credentials, the businessman made multiple payments, only to later discover that the man was an impostor with no record at the Nigerian Bar Association.

When the fraud was uncovered, the victim lodged a formal complaint with the police, leading to the suspect’s arrest. Police officials confirmed that investigations are ongoing and that the suspect will face charges for impersonation and fraud.

Authorities have urged Nigerians to be cautious and verify the credentials of professionals before entering into business or legal agreements. The case has sparked outrage among citizens, many of whom say the incident reflects a wider problem of impostors preying on desperate individuals in an already fragile economy.
