A Nigerian woman identified as Precious has publicly recounted an incident at Deeper Life Church in which she was embarrassed by a pastor during a Sunday school session. The story, which surfaced via social media, has drawn sympathy and raised questions about pastoral conduct in religious settings.
Precious explained that she was assigned to teach a teenage Sunday school class and spent the week preparing her lesson. On the Sunday in question, she arrived at church, organized her students, and began teaching. But, at a certain point, the pastor called out: “Who is handling that Sunday school?” When she was identified as Precious, the pastor allegedly ordered all the students in the class to go back inside the main church congregation, effectively ending her teaching abruptly.
Humiliated, she stepped outside the church, visibly distraught, saying she could not bear the eyes of others. She reportedly said, “Like now, I’m outside, I can’t even bear the shame … it will take only the grace of God for somebody to enter heaven.” She also alluded to feeling torn between her faith and the pain of the public embarrassment.
The video went viral, eliciting reactions from users who shared similar experiences, while others criticized the pastor’s decision, calling it insensitive and unkind. Some defended the church as an institution, saying that perhaps context and misunderstanding exist. Precious, however, said she no longer felt comfortable returning to that service, at least for now.
