NEW NYC PRESIDENT VOWS AGGRESSIVE ACTION AGAINST YOUTH UNEMPLOYMENT

Abuja — Comrade Annum Jethro Terhile, the newly elected National President of the Nigerian Youth Congress (NYC), has pledged to make youth unemployment his administration’s top priority. He was formally inaugurated after the National Convention of the NYC, and his acceptance speech set out clear plans for addressing the issue.

Terhile said the NYC will partner closely with government agencies, private sector firms, and international development organizations to deliver sustainable programs aimed at equipping young people with skills and opportunities. He emphasized that beyond mere job seekership, the goal is to cultivate youth who are job creators through vocational training, entrepreneurship hubs, technology innovation labs, and agricultural empowerment projects.

He criticized the current youth unemployment rate, which has only slightly dropped from 8.0% to 7.5%, as unacceptable. Terhile also highlighted that underemployment remains a serious concern and warned that a large population of unempowered youth poses social risks if not properly engaged.
