Abuja — The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, is set to commission two newly completed road projects and launch twelve additional road and solar lighting projects starting Thursday, September 18, 2025, under the Light Up Abuja programme.
According to a statement by the Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, the two finished roads are the access road in Sector Centre B by Dakibiyu District and roads ILS 11 (Esther Bali Street) and MAR 24 (Kez Udezue Street) in Mabushi District.
Over the course of roughly one month—from September 18 to October 16—the Minister will flag off fourteen projects in total. These include the hybrid solar street lighting installations in key districts and expressways of Abuja, covering areas such as Maitama, Asokoro, Wuse, the Central Business District, Airport Expressway, Katampe, Garki I & II, Mabushi, Gudu, Jabi, and Katampe Extension.
Other flagged-off works include major road developments: the construction of Arterial Road N1 from Wuye to Ring Road II; Northern Parkway between Ring Road II and III; access road to Mabushi Bus Terminal; Phase II of the Arterial N20 (Solomon Lar Way) from Obafemi Awolowo Way to Airport Expressway; access roads for Renewed Hope Cities & Estates in Karsana West; a bypass access road relating to the Airport Second Runway; plus bridges and erosion control works.
Mr. Wike also intends to inaugurate the two completed roads at the start of the schedule and has emphasized that the Light Up Abuja programme aims not only to improve road infrastructure but also enhance public safety, mobility, and night-time visibility through the solar lighting components.
