Abia State successfully hosted the 1st Abia Para-Badminton International Championship (Sept. 30–Oct. 5) and is the staging ground for the All-Africa Para-Badminton Championships that followed. The local organising committee, backed by state officials, delivered a multi-day programme that attracted athletes across the federation and the continent, underscoring growing investment in para-sport.
Nigeria’s para-athletes have been prominent on the international scene this year, with names like Paralympic medallist Eniola Bolaji delivering headline performances in several overseas events. Domestic organisers say the Abia events are designed to boost classification, update national rankings and strengthen preparation for upcoming continental championships and Paralympic qualification cycles.
