The Federal Government, in collaboration with Edo State authorities, has established a task force to drive reforms and development within the livestock sector. The initiative aims to enhance productivity, modernize supply chains, and improve regulatory oversight across Nigeria’s animal husbandry industry.
Officials noted that the partnership will focus on supporting local farmers, promoting value addition, and increasing access to financing for livestock businesses. The task force is also expected to tackle systemic challenges such as animal disease outbreaks, market inefficiencies, and inadequate infrastructure.
Edo State, which has been identified as a key hub for livestock development in the South-South region, will host pilot projects to implement modern breeding, feeding, and processing practices. Authorities said the collaboration is intended to create jobs, ensure food security, and position Nigeria as a competitive player in regional and international livestock markets.
