NDLEA Destroys 6.7 Hectares of Cannabis Farms in Edo

The Edo State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has destroyed three cannabis farms covering a total of 6.711 hectares in the state.

State Commander, Dr. Mitchel Ofuyeju, disclosed this in Benin during an interview with journalists. He said the farms, located in Ugbodo Forest, Ovia North-East Local Government Area, were estimated to yield 16,777.98 kilograms of cannabis when harvested.

Ofuyeju explained that the command’s fight against drug trafficking also recorded significant legal breakthroughs, noting that 11 persons were convicted for drug-related offences in October alone

He added that the command is currently prosecuting 121 cases at the Federal High Court in Benin City, demonstrating what he described as NDLEA’s determination to dismantle drug cartels and block the supply chain of narcotics.

The commander further revealed that 22 individuals undergoing drug abuse challenges are receiving counselling under the NDLEA’s Drug Demand Reduction programme, aimed at rehabilitating users and reducing addiction in communities.
