Rev. (Dr.) Dachomo of Regional Chairman of the Church of Christ in Nations (COCIN) in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area in Plateau state has gone public to say he is receiving threats after publicly asserting that specific incidents constituted a campaign amounting to “Christian genocide.” The clergyman told reporters he has faced intimidation since making the claim, and that security agencies have been informed while he continues to press for independent investigations into attacks on Christian communities.
Dachomo said his assertion which drew national attention and controversy was motivated by on-the-ground testimony from affected congregations and not by political calculation. He urged calm even as he demanded credible, transparent probes into alleged coordinated attacks on worship centres and civilian populations. Observers note his case illustrates the heightened sensitivity around religious framing of violence in Nigeria and the risks public figures face when using charged language.
Human rights groups have cautioned that labels like “genocide” carry serious legal and diplomatic consequences and must be applied with rigorous evidentiary support. They called for balanced reporting and emphasized the need for state agencies to protect both the clergy making claims and victims who demand justice.
