Edo State invites citizens to contribute to 2026 Budget

As part of its preparations for the 2026 fiscal year, the Edo State Government has begun public consultations to solicit citizens’ input on priority sectors naming security, health, and education as the top areas for immediate attention. The consultation drive was reported in late November 2025 by local media covering the state’s planning process.

According to state officials, the government aims to align its 2026 budget with citizens’ needs, especially given rising concerns about insecurity and demands for improved access to healthcare and quality education. The outreach is part of a broader citizen‑budgeting initiative intended to increase transparency and ensure that public funds address community‑level challenges

The consultations will allow individuals, community leaders, civil society groups, and interest organisations  including those in agriculture, social welfare, and infrastructure  to propose projects or sectors they believe should receive funding priority in the forthcoming budget. State planners say this approach aims to reduce gaps between government planning and grassroots needs, ensuring that vulnerable areas get more responsive support.

This participatory budgeting initiative follows recent efforts by the state government to revitalise livestock business through ranch development, signaling a broader shift towards structured agricultural and rural‑development policies.
